(Lafayette, LA) August 13, 2007 – Frank’s new 1250 ton Elevator and 1250 ton Spider continue to impress clients. Recently the tools successfully completed a job for the Anadarko "Tonga” project. On this project, the tools ran a 1.31 million lbs. tapered string of 13 5/8” and 14” pipe with a total string length of 13,245’.
The pipe was run in an open hole and with the risk of getting stuck, every second counted. The 1250 ton tools unique design allowed Frank’s to save Anadarko at least two hours by not having to change tools to accommodate different pipe sizes. Conventional tools would have required a complete rig down of the 13 5/8” tools, then a complete rig up on the 14” tools, costing valuable time and creating unnecessary safety hazards. Other Frank’s tools utilized on the Anadarko job were the Data-Trek and FC-1 Flowback Tool.
According to Nancy Seiler, Drilling Engineer for Anadarko, "The ability to run both 13 5/8” pipe and 14” pipe without having to change tools saved us time and money making the tools more efficient and cost effective, while at the same time providing a safer work environment.”
Both the 1250 ton Elevator and 1250 ton Spider are the first tools available to the industry with a safe working load of greater than 1000 tons. The unique design allows the tools to grip casing with improved resistance to slip crushing in comparison to standard casing tools. Both are equipped with Frank’s patented Interlock system that ensures that either the spider or elevator is properly set on the pipe before the companion tool is allowed to open.
