CASING TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION SUMMARY
The Casing Technician will be responsible for the following tasks as members of casing crews: remove thread protectors from casing; attach pick-up lines to casing; attach clamps on casing; pushes/pulls suspended casing to position and aligns casing for coupling; removes hand-slips from casing or operates spider to enable the Driller to lower the string of coupled casing into the borehole; places hand-slips around casing or operates spider and elevator at the wellhead to prevent the string of casing from falling into the borehole during change or addition of casing sections.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Responsible for packing/unpacking, connecting/disconnecting, inspecting, monitoring, testing, and operating all equipment at the jobsite.
2. In the absence of CAM Equipment, the Casing Technician is responsible for ensuring the correct make-up of tubulars during the duration of the job.
3. Able to carry out the hours of work and duties as specified by the Crew Supervisor while at the jobsite..
4. Will receive appropriate training to appraise them of relevant legislation, Frank’s policies, standards, and procedures.
5. Attend the regular safety meetings, which take place within Frank's when invited.
6. Recommend measures to improve procedures, equipment performance, quality of services, and suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of services or work crew.
7. Keep his work area clear of trip hazards and perform housekeeping chores to keep his
work area and equipment clean of mud and drilling fluids.
8. Report any unsafe practices, conditions, and/or damage to the environment to the Crew Supervisor.
9. Raise any concerns or problems that emerge between the crew and/or customer with the Crew Supervisor.
10. Seek ways to eliminate unsafe practices, conditions, and avoid damage to the
environment.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
1. Minimum of one year experience in drilling related operations, completion of the Frank’s basic training course, or a combination of skill and/or experience acceptable to the department supervisor.
2. High level of understanding of Frank's equipment.
3. Posses mechanical aptitude.
4. Responsible attitude toward work.
5. Conversant with Frank’s Health and Safety Procedures, Frank’s Policy and Procedures, and Environmental Policies.
6. Ability to work as part of a team.
7. Availability via pager or telephone.
8. Able to travel via crew boat or helicopter to offshore locations.
9. A stable work history in this field.
10. Possess a valid driver’s license, Transportation Worker’s Identification Credentials, and passport.
11. Training: Safegulf, water survival, BP 6 in 1, FCC orientation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and smell. Job requires occasional climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and exertion of force up to 100lbs. Ability to see object close, afar, and peripheral vision is required.
