At Frank's, safety always comes first . . . not only in the way we work, but also in the way we design equipment. The Frank’s RS-500 Long Stroke Spider is no exception.
The RS-500 is designed to mount into the rotary table of the rig and is powered by the rig's standard air supply. The tool fits into any 491/2" rotary table, allowing the main body of the tool to be completely recessed into the rotary table. The top cover and guides remain approximately 183/8" above the floor. What really makes this design unique is its ability to accommodate multiple control lines typically encountered on today's high-tech completions. The tool easily handles large O.D. control umbilicals used on subsea completions.
The RS-500 enhances workplace safety by eliminating clutter on the rig floor, since the tool is designed to recess into the rotary at the rig floor.
By lowering the tool into the rotary table, the tong and elevator operators can now safely and easily operate equipment without the need for special scaffolding that is typically required with surface mount tools.
An important feature of the RS-500 is it’s ability to be used in all rotaries. The spider can be placed directly into National, Emsco, and Oilwell 491/2” rotary tables. Adapter rings allow it to interface with other larger rotaries.
The RS-500 is suitable on casing, completion tubing, or drill pipe applications. Corrosion resistant tubing can be run with Frank's Reduced Penetration Slips & Inserts.
The "Long Stroke" feature of the RS-500 means that the slips are raised higher, therefore opening wider than they would in conventional spider bodies. This unique feature provides the ability to pass large O.D. control lines or umbilical clamps through the tool body.
