The Frank’s 1250 Ton Spider is the first casing spider available to the industry with a safe working load rating greater then 1000 tons. (Tool has been load tested to 5,000,000 lbs. in order to achieve a 1250 SWL Rating in accordance with API 7K criteria.) Unique design allows the tool to grip casing with improved resistance to slip crushing in comparison to standard casing tools. Equipped with Frank’s patented Spider/Elevator Interlock system that ensures that either the spider or the elevator is properly set on the pipe before the companion tool is allowed to open. The spider will mate with all 49 1/2” rotary tables without the use of adapter rings. The unique design of the spider centers pipe automatically without the need for an external centering device. Hydraulic slip actuation ensures the slips are set and also provides reactive torque to the string during connection make-up. Slips open to provide a passage which is 5” in diameter over the nominal pipe size for which the tool is dressed. This feature combined with hinged top guides provides for easy passage of large O.D. couplings, lift nubbins, rigid centralizers and other components. For example, with the spider dressed for 20” casing, the passage thru the open slips is 25” I.D. Tapered casing strings can be run with little or no adjustments and without changing slips.
