Control Line Pusher Arm

The Control Line Pusher Arm’s purpose is to move control lines to a position near the pipe to aid in the installation of the control line clamps as well as to pull the control lines away from the pipe so that the lines will be clear of the elevator as the elevator lowers the joint. The Control Line Pusher Arm may be mounted on the rig floor or in the derrick, depending on the rig. For the floor mount a rig specific mounting bracket is designed and built that allows the arm to be raised in a stowed position when not in use. A large work area below the control line head allows for work to continue without the loss of workspace.

 

The Control Line Pusher Arm has a 48" stroke which puts the head in close proximity to the pipe when fully extended. The telescoping cylinder is controlled from a remote console. The control lines are captured in the head and will run on a set of rollers machined to match the control line profiles. The arc of the rollers keeps the bend radius of the control lines below the maximum bend radius. The angle of the control lines will depend on the mounting height of the pusher arm and the mounting height of the control line sheave.

 

Either the floor mounted arm or the derrick mounted arm can be used with the Frank's RS- 250 rotary spider fitted with a control line capture guide and lead in rollers.
